During last week, five bodies laced with bullets were found hanging from an electric pole in Pakistan. The victims, who were later identified as Afghan nationals, have now been returned to their families, according to a statement from Afghan embassy in Islamabad on Thursday.
The bodies were discovered on Friday near a college in Dalbandin city, which is located near to the Afghanistan and Iran borders in Balochistan.
According to Afghan embassy’s statement, bodies were handed over to the victims’ families on Wednesday at the spin Boldak-Chaman border crossing. The embassy’s consulate in Balochistan made “serious efforts” to ensure the return of the bodies to their relatives waiting in Afghanistan. The statement also noted that the five Afghans were brutally killed by unknown assailants.
Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, around 600,000 Afghans have fled to Pakistan. However, relations between the two countries have deteriorated, leading to Pakistan’s recent efforts to expel large numbers of undocumented Afghan refugees.
