KANDHKOT: At least eight people were killed including five children, and wounded five others when a rocket launcher’s shell exploded in a house in Kandhkot district of Sindh on Wednesday.
This unfortunate incident occurred in a house situated in the Ghora Ghat area, a riverine region, as confirmed by Kandhkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohail Khoso.
Initial investigations indicate that children stumbled upon the rocket launcher while on agricultural land and, unknowingly, brought it home, leading to the devastating explosion.
Upon receiving reports of the tragedy, rescue teams promptly transported the deceased and injured to the hospital. An official inquiry is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
Responding to the event, Sindh’s interim Chief Minister, Maqbool Baqar, expressed deep concern and requested a comprehensive report from Inspector-General (IG) Dr. Riffat Mukhtar. The interim CM raised questions regarding the origins of the rocket launcher in the village and whether there were any attempts to smuggle a weapons cache into the kutcha areas. He also inquired about the potential involvement of individuals aiding criminals in the village, emphasizing the importance of a thorough report on the matter.
