PESHAWAR/SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Five terrorists were killed, and two others injured in a clash with security forces in Lakki Marwat district on Wednesday, the military’s media wing reported.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement saying that the security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
The security forces surrounded the terrorists’ hideout during the operation. In the exchange of fire, five terrorists were killed, and two others were wounded.
“A sanitisation operation is ongoing to ensure no other militants remain in the area. The security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country,” the ISPR said.
TTP Leader Killed
In another incident, a local commander of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Birmal Tehsil area of Lower South Waziristan. The incident occurred on Wednesday.
Sources revealed that Mehmood Wazir was wanted by police for several attacks on security forces, police, and civilians.
Late on Wednesday night, a loud explosion was heard in Birmal Tehsil, followed by heavy gunfire. Sources suggested that Mehmood Wazir’s death might be linked to internal conflicts within the TTP. His funeral took place in his native village, Darabalai.
Attack Foiled
On the same day, security forces thwarted an attack near a Frontier Constabulary post in Nandron, located in the Birmal area. Militants attempted to attack the post, but they fled after heavy gunfire from the security forces.
Local Wazir tribesmen have urged the government to take stronger action to improve the law and order situation in South and North Waziristan.
