Flash Floods in Jhelum and Chakwal Trigger Massive Army-Led Rescue Effort

Flash floods in Jhelum and Chakwal have caused widespread chaos after relentless monsoon rains lashed the region. Dozens of people, including women and children, remain stranded in flooded areas.

In Jhelum’s low-lying village Dhok Badir, over 40 residents got trapped on Thursday. Floodwaters from Burhan Nallah swept into the village, turning streets into rivers.

The Pakistan Army responded swiftly. An urgent rescue operation was launched. Helicopters and ground teams rushed to the scene. So far, ten victims have been evacuated to safer places.

Military helicopters are airlifting those stuck in the rising waters. Emergency teams are providing life jackets and distributing relief supplies on the ground.

Army units and the local administration are handling the situation together. Command centers are monitoring the flood emergency round the clock.

Jhelum’s Deputy Commissioner stated that residents were warned to evacuate a day earlier. This alert came after water levels rose sharply in nearby streams.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has raised a red alert. Officials fear that the inflow in the Jhelum River at Mangla might exceed 350,000 cusecs. Authorities are on high alert amid the danger of worsening flash floods in Jhelum.

Chakwal is also reeling from devastation. Over 400 millimetres of rain hit the area in the past 24 hours. Homes and infrastructure have suffered heavy damage. Flash flooding has struck both urban and rural zones.

Rescue work is underway across affected localities. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), backed by Army personnel, is spearheading evacuation missions.

“The situation has become critical due to record rainfall,” said the Director General of PDMA. “We are using helicopters, boats, and every available resource to pull people out.”

The flash floods in Jhelum and Chakwal come amid a wider monsoon emergency in Punjab, KP, and Islamabad. Torrential rains have claimed over 36 lives. At least 90 others have been injured in various incidents, including roof collapses and flooding.

As floodwaters continue to rise, rescue teams remain in action. The government urges citizens to stay alert and follow safety warnings.

The fight to rescue those stranded by flash floods in Jhelum continues, as every minute counts.
