The federal government has announced a major flood relief package to ease the burden on households and farmers affected by recent floods. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain confirmed that electricity bills for victims will be reduced, while farmers will receive direct support to recover their losses.
According to the minister, the government plans to remove multiple charges from electricity bills in flood-hit areas. These include the general sales tax, FC surcharge, and fixed charges. Proposals also cover the waiver of fuel price adjustment, income tax, surplus taxes, additional taxes, and retailer sales tax. The flood relief package further ensures that wrongly issued extra bills in affected regions will be corrected.
Alongside these steps, provincial governments will waive land revenue for flood victims. Special focus will be placed on helping families whose homes and livelihoods were damaged. The minister underlined that these measures are part of a wider plan to bring real relief to people struggling after the disaster.
A separate farmers’ package has also been announced as part of the broader flood relief package. This scheme aims to compensate farmers for crop and livestock damage caused by flooding. A survey of the affected areas will be completed within 10 days, with initial assessments already compiled.
Preliminary findings show rice as the worst-hit crop. In the Gujranwala division alone, up to 18 percent of rice fields were damaged. For other crops, losses ranged between one to three percent. Rana Tanveer Hussain noted that the government is committed to providing direct support so that farmers can recover quickly and continue production.
The minister assured that the flood relief package will serve as both immediate support and long-term assistance. By addressing electricity costs and agricultural losses, the government hopes to stabilize affected communities and rebuild confidence in the recovery process.
