ISLAMABAD: Jalil Abbas Jilani, the Caretaker Foreign Minister, is set to embark on an official visit to Azerbaijan to partake in the 27th session of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers. The meeting is scheduled to be held in Susha, Azerbaijan, spanning from October 9 to 10.
During his visit, the Foreign Minister will deliver a speech at the Council of Ministers (COM) and engage in bilateral discussions with ministers from member states and other dignitaries present at the event.
As per a statement released by the Foreign Office Spokesperson on Saturday, the Council of Ministers functions as the decision-making body of the ECO, responsible for endorsing the organization’s decisions and annual work plan.
At the 27th COM, member states will deliberate on strategies to boost sustainable economic development in the ECO region, emphasizing trade, economic cooperation, and mutual support in social, cultural, technical, and scientific realms. The central theme for this year’s event is “Green Transition and Interconnectivity.”
Being a founding member, Pakistan remains steadfastly committed to the objectives and goals of the ECO and has actively led various significant ECO initiatives and agreements, such as the ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA) and the ECO Transit Transport Framework Agreement (ECOTTFA).
