ISLAMABAD: Following a request from the Intelligence Bureau, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has submitted an application in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking the withdrawal of its review petition in the Faizabad sit-in case.
The plea, filed through by Advocate Muhammad Sharif Janjua, comes just one day before a three-member bench of the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case. The bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justices Athar Minallah and Aminuddin Khan, will review the matter.
According to the application, the chairman of PEMRA has issued a directive, conveyed via a letter, to withdraw the petition and cease any further pursuit of the case.
PEMRA’s petition is one of at least eight petitions filed in response to a verdict on the Faizabad sit-in, initially authored by now Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. On Tuesday, the Intelligence Bureau also withdrew its petition.
Among the other petitioners are Tehreek-i-Insaf, the Ministry of Defence, the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the former Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, and politician Ejazul Haq.
The judgment had instructed the defense ministry and the chiefs of the army, navy, and air force to take disciplinary action against personnel under their command who were found to have violated their oaths.
