Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch briefed diplomats of Islamabad-based diplomatic missions on the recent developments in Pakistan-India relations, with a particular focus on the ceasefire agreement announced on 10 May 2025.
During the briefing, the Foreign Secretary highlighted the successful implementation of the ceasefire and shared details of confidence-building measures undertaken by both sides. In a significant gesture of goodwill, Pakistan and India exchanged personnel from the Pakistan Rangers and the Indian Border Security Force who were previously in each other’s custody. The exchange took place yesterday and was seen as a step towards reducing tensions and fostering a more constructive bilateral atmosphere.
Foreign Secretary Baloch expressed appreciation to friendly countries for their positive and supportive role in facilitating the ceasefire. She noted that their constructive engagement played a meaningful part in de-escalating the situation and promoting dialogue.
In response to recent Indian claims of establishing a so-called “new normal” in bilateral relations, the Foreign Secretary firmly rejected such assertions as baseless. She reiterated that the only acceptable and sustainable “normal” must be grounded in the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Emphasising Pakistan’s long-standing policy, Amna Baloch emphasized the country’s preference for peaceful co-existence and resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, rather than confrontation. She reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to pursuing constructive engagement and peaceful relations with its neighbours, while safeguarding its national interests.
The diplomatic briefing reflects Pakistan’s continued effort to keep the international community informed of key regional developments and to reaffirm its commitment to stability and peace in South Asia.
