Former RAW Chief AS Dulat Says India Failed to Isolate Pakistan Diplomatically

Former RAW chief AS Dulat has made a striking admission that India has not succeeded in isolating Pakistan diplomatically, despite years of sustained efforts and a strong international narrative around terrorism concerns.

In a conversation with a British news channel, former RAW chief AS Dulat said India consistently attempted to push Pakistan into diplomatic isolation since the early stages of its foreign policy approach. He added that despite using international lobbying, available resources, and indirect influence channels, the objective was not achieved.

The former RAW chief AS Dulat also pointed out that India and Pakistan relations have remained frozen in recent years. Diplomatic engagement between the two nuclear-armed neighbours has largely stalled, while tensions along the border and brief military confrontations have continued to shape the region.

Referring to the 87-hour conflict in May 2025, AS Dulat highlighted a sharp escalation between the two countries. During that period, Pakistan claimed it shot down multiple Indian aircraft, including Rafale, Su-30, MiG-29, Mirage 2000 jets, and drones, further intensifying already strained relations.

The situation eventually came to an end after a United States–brokered ceasefire agreement on May 10. The deal helped prevent further escalation and brought a temporary pause to active hostilities between the two sides.

After the ceasefire, Pakistan expanded its diplomatic engagement and played a mediating role between the United States and Iran, contributing to a temporary ceasefire arrangement that was later extended.

Former RAW chief AS Dulat also rejected the long-standing perception in some Indian circles that Pakistan would eventually collapse. He stated that Pakistan would remain intact and stable, while suggesting that India itself is increasingly facing diplomatic and political pressure.

He further commented on Pakistan’s military leadership, noting that Field Marshal Asim Munir has received growing international attention. He also claimed that Donald Trump referred to Munir as his “favourite field marshal” during post-conflict diplomatic interactions.

According to former RAW chief AS Dulat, Pakistan’s active and balanced diplomacy has strengthened its global standing, positioning it as a more visible regional player in recent international developments.

On Jammu and Kashmir, AS Dulat highlighted ongoing unrest and a continued sense of uncertainty among the population. He said these issues remain unresolved and continue to affect regional stability.
