MIR ALI: Four bodies were recovered in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan on Saturday, amidst a backdrop of increasing terrorism incidents and the imminent general elections that will shape Pakistan’s governance for the next five years.
Authorities, as of now, have been unable to identify the recovered bodies, which have been transported to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) in Mir Ali. The bodies were found near two parked vehicles, one of which was loaded with vegetables, prompting a swift response from the police upon receiving the information.
Mir Ali, situated 12 kilometers east of Miran Shah, serves as the district headquarters and is located 40 kilometers west of Bannu. Once part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), the region is now incorporated into Bannu Division.
North Waziristan, a merged district of the former Fata, is positioned in the southern part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and, along with South Waziristan, has been a focal point for terrorist activities since 2001. The district shares borders with Bannu and Lakki Marwat to the east, while Hangu is located to its northeast.
The southern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have witnessed a resurgence in terrorism, with security forces, police, and innocent civilians becoming prime targets of banned outfits.
Earlier this month, Mir Ali experienced an incident where six individuals from Punjab, who operated barber shops in the local bazaar, were killed. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) later claimed responsibility for the attack.
