ISLAMABAD: Funeral prayers for victims of the recent suicide blast in the federal capital were offered on Saturday at Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra and Imambargah Jamia Sadiq, drawing large crowds of mourners.
According to officials, funeral prayers for 11 martyrs were held at Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra, while three victims were laid to rest after prayers at Imambargah Jamia Sadiq. A collective absentee funeral prayer for 33 martyrs was also offered.
Federal ministers, senior police officials, prominent religious scholars from various schools of thought, political leaders and a large number of citizens attended the ceremonies.
Scenes of grief unfolded as the bodies of the martyrs were brought for the final rites, with mourners struggling to hold back tears in an emotionally charged atmosphere.
The funeral at Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra was led by Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafaria chief Allama Hussain Muqaddasi. Strict security arrangements were in place, with police and law enforcement agencies on high alert.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers at Imambargah Jamia Sadiq in G-9 were led by Agha Sheikh Muhammad Shafa Najafi. The opposition leader, Islamabad inspector general, political and religious figures and a large number of citizens were among the attendees. Tight security cordons were enforced around the venue.
Participants strongly condemned the attack, prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families. They also demanded swift justice and accountability for those responsible for the act of terrorism.
