NOWSHERA: The funeral prayers of JUI-S chief Maulana Samiul Haq were offered at Akora Khattak on Saturday.
The funeral prayers of the influential religious scholar and former senator, who was assassinated to death at his residence in Rawalpindi a day earlier, were offered at the Khushal Khan College Ground.
Haq’s funeral prayers were led by his son Maulana Hamidul Haq.
Several religious leaders and politicians, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, provincial chief minister, JI Chief Sirajul Haq, former KP governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, ANP’s Ghulam Bilour, PML-N’s Raja Zafarul Haq and others attended the funeral.
The former senator was laid to rest near Darul Uloom Haqqania.
Meanwhile, a first information report (FIR) of Maulana Sami’s assassination was registered at the Airport Police Station in Rawalpindi on his son’s complaint.
The case was registered against unknown suspects.
Meanwhile, the police released the two domestic staff members of Samiul Haq on his son request as they were being interrogated. According to reports, during initial interrogation, they told police that two men visited the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief before his assassination.
In their initial statement to the police, the domestic staff members said, “The two men had visited Maulana Samiual Haq on several occasions before as well and wanted to meet him alone.”
“The JUI-S chief sent us to the market to bring food and drinks,” they further said.
“When we returned after 15 minutes, we found Maulana Samiual Haq lying in a pool of blood,” the staff workers added.
The two staff members were taken into custody earlier today for questioning.
