General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s Final Call for Unity as Pakistan’s Defence Faces New Challenges

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s Final Call for Unity as Pakistan’s Defence Faces New Challenges stands out as one of the most significant developments in Pakistan’s security landscape today. In his farewell address, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza urged Pakistan’s armed forces to stay united, adaptable, and fully prepared for fast evolving threats.

General Mirza said the world was changing at an unimaginable speed. These shifts deeply affect Pakistan’s internal and external security environment. He highlighted rising hybrid warfare, cyber threats, regional instability, and the growing risk of a full scale conflict. He noted that Pakistan needs a sharper strategic focus to counter these challenges.

He stated that the armed forces must remain alert and move in complete alignment. He stressed that every service must work in harmony to protect national security in a high pressure regional environment. His message reflects Pakistan’s current defence priorities as tensions rise across South Asia.

Inter Services Coordination Called a Strategic Necessity

General Mirza emphasised that joint cooperation is not a choice. He said it is a necessary requirement for Pakistan’s defence structure. He called for unified planning, real time coordination, and stronger organisational frameworks. He urged the forces to adopt modern capabilities and future ready strategies.

He added that Pakistan must prepare today for the wars of tomorrow. He said that only a cohesive and technologically empowered force can overcome strategic challenges in a rapidly shifting global order.

General Mirza retires today as Pakistan’s 18th and final CJCSC. The position will be abolished after the implementation of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. His farewell marks the end of nearly five decades of this powerful constitutional role.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met General Mirza and praised his service and professionalism. He acknowledged the landmark improvements in inter services coordination during his tenure.

Created in 1976, the post of CJCSC has mostly remained under army leadership. Only three officers from the navy and air force ever held it. General Mirza now concludes this long and historic chapter as he steps down after a distinguished military career.
