Gilgit-Baltistan General Elections: Security Tightened as Polling Arrangements Completed

GILGIT: Authorities have completed all arrangements for the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections scheduled for June 7, with extensive security measures in place to ensure peaceful voting across the region.

According to the final polling station classification issued by the Election Commission, 1,391 polling stations have been established throughout Gilgit-Baltistan. Among them, 488 have been classified as normal, 349 as sensitive, and 551 as highly sensitive.

District-wise figures show that Gilgit has 253 polling stations, including 154 categorized as highly sensitive. Ghizer has 207 polling stations, while Nagar and Hunza have 85 and 88 polling stations respectively.

In the Baltistan division, Skardu has 208 polling stations, Shigar 71, Kharmang 43, and Ghanche 154. Astore has 108 polling stations, while Diamer has 174.

Diamer recorded the highest number of highly sensitive polling stations, with 119 placed in that category. Gilgit followed with 154 highly sensitive polling stations, highlighting the need for stronger security arrangements in key areas.

Election officials said special security plans have been finalized for all sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations. Additional security personnel will be deployed at vulnerable locations to maintain law and order during polling.

Law enforcement agencies and district administrations will remain on high alert throughout the election process to ensure that voters can cast their ballots in a safe and peaceful environment.
