Gilgit Baltistan: PPP and PML-N Set to Form Coalition Government Amid Power-Sharing Talks

Gilgit Baltistan

A coalition government between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is likely to take shape in Gilgit Baltistan, according to political sources.

Sources say the two parties are moving towards an agreement similar to the PDM-style alliance, with both sides discussing a formal power-sharing arrangement in the region.

Under the proposed setup in Gilgit Baltistan, the chief minister is expected to come from the PPP, while the governorship may be given to the PML-N. A 60/40 formula for the distribution of ministries is also being discussed as part of the coalition deal.

Meanwhile, a high-level government delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met PPP leaders at the Presidency. The meeting included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, and finance officials.

Upon arrival, President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari led the party delegation. The discussions focused on the federal budget and other key political and economic matters.

Sources indicate that both sides have largely agreed on several budget proposals, with the PPP reportedly giving a green signal for budget approval.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister congratulated President Zardari on the PPP’s performance in the Gilgit Baltistan elections and reportedly praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s campaign strategy.

President Zardari responded with a light-hearted remark, adding a personal tone to the political exchange, according to sources.

The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where the situation in Azad Kashmir was also discussed alongside broader political developments.
