MELBOURNE: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced that he will not register for the auction of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 37-year-old, however, did not specify a clear reason for his decision.
In a statement shared on social media, Maxwell said that after several unforgettable IPL seasons, he had decided to withdraw from this year’s auction. He described the move as a significant personal decision, taken with gratitude for the opportunities and experiences the league has provided over the years.
“The IPL has played a major role in shaping me both as a cricketer and as a person,” Maxwell said, adding that playing alongside some of the world’s best players, representing iconic franchises, and competing in front of passionate fans were among the most memorable moments of his career.
Thanking fans for their continued support, Maxwell expressed hope of returning in the future, saying that India’s energy, memories, and challenges would always remain close to his heart.
During his IPL career, Maxwell has represented Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Daredevils, and Punjab Kings.
The announcement comes amid a growing trend of international stars opting out of the IPL, after former South African captain Faf du Plessis and former England all-rounder Moeen Ali recently chose to prioritise the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead.
