Mountain View: Alphabet’s Google (GOOGL.O) introduced a new lineup of Pixel smartphones, showcasing deeper integrations of its artificial intelligence technology. The tech giant is pushing to incorporate AI more extensively into its hardware.
Among the new features is a Pixel-exclusive tool that allows users to search for information within screenshots. Additionally, Android users can now access Google’s chatbot, Gemini, as an overlay on other apps to answer questions or generate content.
“There have been many promises and countless ‘coming-soons,’ but not enough real-world AI usefulness. That’s why today we’re getting real,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of devices and services.
“We’re fully in the Gemini era,” Osterloh told a gathering of engineers, executives, analysts, and media at the event, held at Alphabet’s Bay View campus in Mountain View, California.
This year, Google broke with tradition by unveiling the latest Pixel smartphones in the summer, departing from its usual autumn release schedule, which has been in place since the Pixel’s debut in 2016.
“I’ve attended many Google events, but this was not only one of the most elaborate, it was one of the most comprehensive,” said Avi Greengart, lead analyst at Techsponential, noting Google’s leadership in AI advancements.
