The government has issued a stern warning to PTI regarding their anti-state social media campaigns. Barrister Aqeel Malik, the federal spokesperson on legal affairs, has urged PTI to cease its damaging activities and propaganda. He emphasized the need for PTI to engage in dialogue with the government to address political issues instead of harming Pakistan’s global reputation.
During a press conference, Malik accused PTI of unprecedented hostility by promoting anti-Pakistan legislation abroad. “Pakistan is a sovereign country and will not take dictation from others. We want friendly relations with all nations,” he asserted. Malik claimed that following the 2022 vote of no confidence, PTI launched a concentrated smear campaign against Pakistan internationally, employing lobbyists and PR firms to spread anti-Pakistan messages.
Malik pointed to Resolution 901, introduced in the US Congress by Congressman McCormick in November 2023, as having connections to PTI. He stated that PTI orchestrated various anti-Pakistan legislative initiatives in the US with support from the overseas Pakistani community. “In May 2023, 65 congressmen wrote to the US Secretary of Defence to focus on human rights and democracy in Pakistan,” Malik highlighted. He further noted that in November 2023, 11 congressmen called for the suspension of US aid to Pakistan, and in early 2024, 31 congressmen urged the US Secretary of State and President not to recognize Pakistan’s new government.
Malik stressed that PTI’s anti-state social media campaign involved collaboration with anti-Pakistan elements, including India. He assured that the government is fully aware of these activities and their perpetrators. “Opposition to the state is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Malik warned. He reiterated that no political party is above Pakistan and that the state will not permit any anti-state agenda.
Malik called on PTI to reconsider its actions and focus on the nation’s welfare. He criticized the party for aligning with enemies of the country for political purposes. “PTI is causing embarrassment to Pakistan at international forums,” Malik remarked. He concluded by urging PTI to contribute positively to the country, emphasizing that harmful political actions will not be allowed.
