Government Sets Target to Send 800,000 Pakistanis Abroad for Jobs in 2026

Govt Targets 800,000 Overseas Jobs for Pakistanis in 2026

The federal government has announced a major overseas employment plan, setting a target to send 800,000 Pakistanis abroad for jobs in 2026, marking a significant increase compared to around 740,000 workers who secured foreign employment last year.

The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain during a meeting with a delegation of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).

The minister said that global demand for Pakistani workers is steadily rising, particularly in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as well as other international markets. He noted that Pakistan’s workforce is gaining recognition for its skills, discipline, and adaptability.

To meet international labour market requirements, the government is introducing soft skills training programmes in collaboration with South Korea and Japan. These programmes aim to enhance the professional skills of Pakistani workers and improve their competitiveness at the global level.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain also announced a key policy change for women seeking overseas employment, stating that the minimum age limit has been reduced from 35 to 25 years. He said the move would create more job opportunities for women and encourage their participation in the international labour market.

Highlighting the economic impact of overseas employment, the minister said skilled Pakistani workers play a vital role in strengthening the country’s economy and boosting foreign exchange reserves. He shared that a Pakistani worker employed in South Korea sends an average of $1,800 per month in remittances.

The minister added that the government is implementing comprehensive reforms to address issues faced by overseas Pakistanis, promote skill development, and ensure safe, organized, and dignified employment opportunities abroad.
