Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has issued sharp criticism of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, calling on them to take responsibility for the worsening law and order situation in the province. Speaking to the media, Kundi highlighted the lack of attention from PTI leaders during times of crisis. “When our province was facing a worsening law and order crisis, there was a noticeable lack of attention,” he remarked.
Addressing speeches made at a recent PTI rally, Kundi expressed concerns over the use of undemocratic methods in recent political movements, stressing that such actions undermine the country’s political landscape. “My duty is to protect the constitution and the law, and I will continue to do so,” Kundi stated, condemning the undemocratic language and actions targeting key state institutions during PTI rallies.
Kundi directed his criticism toward Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, stating that a leader unable to uphold the rule of law in his province is either unfit for office or complicit with extremist elements. He urged Gandapur to call for a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly to ensure accountability. Kundi further criticized Gandapur’s recent behavior, noting, “Ali Amin Gandapur disregarded Pakhtun traditions yesterday,” and condemned the mistreatment of women at the event.
Accusing Gandapur of instigating unrest, Kundi referenced the controversial events of May 9 and criticized Gandapur’s two-week ultimatum, stating that the chief minister was overstepping his constitutional limits. He pointed out that the constitution prohibits both the prime minister and chief minister from having more than five advisers and revealed that he had rejected Gandapur’s proposal for a sixth adviser.
Governor Kundi also commented on the lack of law enforcement in Gandapur’s village, suggesting that either there is no writ of law, or Gandapur is unwilling to enforce it due to affiliations with extremists. Touching on the violent events of May 9, Kundi stated that the actions taken on that day were unacceptable, calling for severe punishment for those responsible.
Highlighting the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) commitment to democratic values, Kundi remarked, “The founder of PPP was judicially murdered, but the party neither set things on fire nor destroyed the statues of martyrs.” He emphasized that the PPP remains a staunch defender of democracy and condemned any attempts to destabilize the nation.
