The government is planning to provide subsidised petrol to motorcyclists and small vehicle owners through a mobile application, with an official announcement expected soon.
According to sources, the system will digitize the distribution of subsidised fuel to ensure transparency and better control. Users will receive digital vouchers through the app, while QR codes will also be introduced for verification at petrol pumps.
The Ministry of IT will procure around 24,000 mobile phones for the project. The National IT Board will finalise pricing, while oil marketing companies will purchase and distribute these devices to nearly 12,000 petrol pumps across the country.
Under the plan, two nozzles at each petrol pump will be reserved for subsidised fuel. This will mainly benefit two-wheelers and three-wheelers, which will receive petrol through the mobile app system.
Sources say the app has already been developed and is in the final testing phase. Motorcycles are expected to receive 20 to 30 litres of subsidised petrol per month. However, a final decision on including cars up to 800cc is still pending.
Meanwhile, the government is exploring multiple options to tackle the ongoing energy crisis. Authorities have also started monitoring petrol pumps nationwide to ensure the system remains transparent and effective.
Officials confirmed that QR codes will be issued for subsidised petrol distribution, and a formal announcement is likely in the coming days. The subsidy is aimed at providing targeted relief to low-income users, especially riders of motorcycles and three-wheelers.
