ISLAMABAD: The government is considering a bill to increase the number of Supreme Court judges from 17 to 23. This bill, expected to be introduced in the National Assembly on Friday, would expand the apex court’s bench, including the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The bill, presented earlier by Barrister Danyal Chaudhary during a private session, also includes a proposed amendment to the Practice and Procedure Act. Initially set to conclude on Tuesday, the National Assembly session has been extended until Friday to allow for further discussion and potential approval of the bill.
If passed, this expansion would be a significant adjustment to the court’s structure, potentially enhancing judicial capacity in Pakistan’s highest court.
