ISLAMABAD: Two police officials were injured when unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade at the residence of Pakistan’s former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in Lahore late on Wednesday night, police officials said.
Police said that the blast, which occurred in Saqib Nisar’s residence in the Garden Town area of Lahore, caused significant damage to the windows of the house and car parked in the garage of the house. Punjab police, upon receiving information about the incident, promptly arrived at the former Chief Justice’s residence.
Police said that two officers assigned to provide security at the residence, Khuram Shehzad and Muhammad Amir, sustained injuries in the blast.
Media reports said that Saqib Nisar and his family were inside the house when the incident occurred. Saqib Nisar’s son has allegedly received threats on two previous occasions.
Police officials said that the attackers were riding on a motorcycle and attacked the residence with a hand grenade. The former chief justice said that a vehicle parked in the garage of the house was damaged in the explosion.
