Gujranwala Mass Transit System Approved, 31.5km Metro Project to Serve 2.6 Million Daily

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the design of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System during a high-level meeting.

During the meeting, officials were directed to connect all areas of Gujranwala with the metro train through a network of feeder buses. This step aims to ensure easy access for commuters across the city.

To improve traffic flow, it was also decided to include two tunnel sections in the project. In addition, approval was given in principle to construct around 17 to 19 kilometres of the track underground.

Officials further shared that solar systems will be installed at all stations and depots to support energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.

According to authorities, the Gujranwala Mass Transit System will have the capacity to serve up to 2.6 million passengers daily.

The project will cover a total distance of 31.5 kilometres, running from Gakhar to Eminabad. The government has set a timeline of 12 months for the completion of the project.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve public transport, reduce traffic congestion, and provide modern travel facilities to the residents of Gujranwala.
