TEL AVIV: Hezbollah has confirmed that its chief, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli overnight strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
“Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, has joined his great, immortal martyr comrades whom he led for about 30 years,” Hezbollah said in a statement.
Earlier today, the Israeli military has claimed on Saturday that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in a strike on Beirut.
“Hassan Nasrallah is dead,” said Israeli army spokesperson Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani on the social media platform X.
Channel 12 reported that Zainab Nasrallah, Hassan’s daughter, was also killed in the significant Israeli airstrike on Hezbollah headquarters. However, there has been no official confirmation from either Israel or Lebanon regarding her death.
Zainab has been a strong advocate for Hezbollah and has publicly honored her family’s sacrifices. She previously spoke about her brother’s killing by Israeli forces in 1997, emphasizing that her family chose to celebrate his sacrifice rather than mourn. “When my brother Hadi was martyred, my parents did not shed a single tear,” she said in a 2022 interview on Al-Manar TV.
So far, Hezbollah has not released any comments or statements regarding these events.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Calls Emergency Meeting
In response to the Israeli strike on Hezbollah’s headquarters, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, convened an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council, according to Iranian media.
This meeting follows conflicting reports about Hassan Nasrallah’s fate after the Israeli military’s attack on the group’s main base. While Reuters cited sources indicating that Nasrallah was unreachable, Iranian media reported that he is “alive.”
