PESHAWAR: A high-profile terrorist has been killed in an intelligence-based operation carried out by security forces in the Bajaur District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the operation, carried out on Wednesday, terrorist commander Irfanullah Adnan was killed after an intense exchange of fire.
The killed terrorist was involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces, extortion, and targeted killings of innocent civilians, making him highly wanted by law enforcement agencies.
The local community appreciated the operation and expressed their full support for the security forces’ efforts to eliminate terrorism from the country.
Earlier, a remote-controlled device targeted vehicle of the former senator Hidayatullah Khan in the Dama Dola area of Bajaur. As result of firing he, along with his two guards, Irfan and Nazar Deen was killed in the blast.
Hidayatullah Khan was on his way to an election campaign when the attack occurred. He was the brother of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukat Ullah. A by-election for provincial assembly constituency PK-22 is scheduled for July 11.
It is pertinent to mention here that he had previously survived an attempt on his life.
Hidayatullah Khan served as a senator for two consecutive terms, from 2012 to 2024. He was elected to the upper house of parliament as a candidate of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the 2012 Senate elections.
In 2018, he won as an independent candidate supported by the then ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He retired from the Senate in March this year upon completing his six-year term.
Mubarak Zeb Khan, bother of late Rehan Zeb Khan, won both the PK-22 and NA-8 seats in the April 21 by-election. However, he chose to retain the NA seat and resigned from the provincial assembly slot.
