How to Identify Fake Rs 5000 Note, Here are Key Tips

ISLAMABAD: In response to concerns raised during a Senate committee meeting, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has released a detailed guide on the distinctive features of the Rs 5000 note. The move follows Committee member Kamil Ali Agha’s presentation of counterfeit notes, highlighting the issue of fake currency circulation.

To address this, the SBP has shared a video explainer on YouTube outlining the unique identifying features of the Rs 5000 note. These include the use of optical variable ink on the Pakistani flag, raised marks for visually impaired individuals, a silver thread, watermark, and hidden figures. The video also highlights lime green threads visible under ultraviolet light.

The matter gained attention during the Senate Standing Committee on Finance meeting, where Chairman Saleem Mandviwala presented a Rs 5,000 note and asked the deputy governor of SBP to determine its authenticity. As the deputy governor couldn’t confirm its legitimacy, Mandviwala urged the formulation of a policy to address counterfeit currency.

While the Rs 5000 note had previously been discussed in the Senate, with a resolution suggesting its removal to combat inflation, the caretaker finance minister clarified that no such proposal was under consideration.
