ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government, trying to help with the rising prices, has reduced the cost of petrol by Rs40 and high-speed diesel by Rs15 for the next two weeks.
Now, petrol costs Rs283.38 per liter, and high-speed diesel is Rs303.18 per liter.
This adjustment is based on changes in global commodity prices and a better exchange rate.
Moreover, the government has also decreased the prices of light diesel by Rs19.59 per liter and kerosene by Rs22.43 for the next two weeks.
After these reductions, the new price for kerosene will be Rs214.85 per liter.
During this period, there was no general sales tax (GST) on petroleum products.
However, there is a petroleum levy (PL) of Rs60 per liter on petrol.
To increase revenue and meet tax collection goals for the fiscal year, the authorities have raised the levy on diesel by Rs5, making it Rs55 per liter.
