ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar reiterated the country’s commitment to upholding and promoting human rights principles both domestically and internationally.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights Day, PM Kakar emphasized the document’s foundational principles, asserting that every individual, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status, is entitled to inherent rights.
He emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding human rights through strategic initiatives, including the ratification of core conventions, constitutional incorporation of fundamental rights, and the establishment of institutions.
PM Kakar highlighted the enactment of special laws to protect vulnerable populations such as women, children, minorities, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and transgenders. He cited the vital roles played by institutions like the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and the National Commission on the Rights of the Child (NCRC) in ensuring the implementation of these laws.
While acknowledging progress, PM Kakar acknowledged existing challenges, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts at national and international levels to address human rights complexities. Expressing concern for violations elsewhere, he specifically condemned human rights abuses in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Israel’s actions in Palestine.
PM Kakar called for an end to violations in IIOJK, supporting the Kashmiri people’s struggle for justice. Similarly, he urged the international community to work towards an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israel’s occupation, addressing the pressing human rights situation in Palestine.
