ICC worried as Pakistan refuses to play India in T20 World Cup group match

ICC concerned as Pakistan refuses to play India in T20 World Cup match

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly concerned after Pakistan declined to play India in the T20 World Cup group stage, triggering uncertainty over one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.

Pakistan’s decision has put the global cricket body under pressure, with the ICC now exploring options to persuade Pakistan to reconsider, Indian media reported.

According to the reports, the ICC will initiate backchannel discussions with Pakistan over the matter. The responsibility for these talks has reportedly been assigned to ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja.

Imran Khwaja, who represents the Singapore Cricket Association, is expected to engage with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to discuss the situation and encourage Pakistan to take part in the high-profile match.

Indian media claimed Khwaja has been asked to play the role of a “peacemaker” in the current situation.

It may be recalled that the Government of Pakistan announced on Sunday, February 15, that the national team would not play the T20 World Cup match against India.

Reports also claimed that the PCB has not yet completed the formal process of officially informing the ICC through its platform.
