ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday rejected a miscellaneous petition of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to withdraw objections raised in the Audio Leaks case.
During the hearing on IB’s request to withdraw objections against Justice Babar Sattar, the Assistant Attorney General stated that IB wished to retract its objection to the bench.
Justice Babar Sattar responded by informing the court that IB’s objection had already been dismissed. He further indicated that the order dismissing the objection would be provided, and the Director General (DG) of IB would be notified about potential contempt of court action. Additionally, the order sought clarification on who authorized the filing of the objection, with IB given the opportunity to respond.
Notably, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had also objected to Justice Babar and sought withdrawal from the audio leaks case. The petitions from PEMRA, PTA, and FIA were dismissed, each facing a penalty of Rs500 thousand. Following this, IB sought to withdraw its objections after being fined Rs1.5 million.
