ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday resolved the petition concerning the recovery of poet Ahmed Farhad.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC presided over the hearing, which aimed to recover poet Farhad and identify those responsible for his abduction. During the session, the court emphasized the importance of law enforcement in Islamabad, asserting that no one, including judges, is above the law. Justice Kayani remarked, “I am referring this matter to a committee; everyone must respect the law.”
Justice Mohsin highlighted the necessity for institutions to operate within their designated limits. He cited an example where ego issues led to a man being involved in two cases, adversely affecting his family, describing it as a series of injustices.
The court asserted its jurisdiction over matters within Islamabad and announced a ban on in-camera proceedings and reporting on national security issues. The case is being referred to a larger bench for review, allowing multiple judges to assess the situation, especially if there is disagreement on summoning intelligence agency heads.
The court stressed the need to establish clear boundaries. “In this case, the entire government machinery gets involved. Neither institutions nor courts should operate based on ego issues. I am still safeguarding myself from harm. This court is always available to protect this man’s rights.
The investigation will proceed based on Ahmed Farhad’s statement before the magistrate. If needed, refer back to the court. I know how to enforce my orders,” Justice Kayani stated.
Subsequently, the court disposed of the recovery petition for poet Ahmed Farhad.
