ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday indicated to give its decision next week on the plea challenging former prime minister Imran Khan’s jail trial. Moreover, the IHC will also announce its reserved decision on appointment of the trial court judge in cypher case.
During the hearing of the petition for an early decision by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Advocate Sher Afzal Marwat represented Chairman PTI in court. Marwat informed the court that the Imran Khan’s jail trial in the cypher case has commenced, but a decision on their appeal is still pending. The cypher case is scheduled for another hearing on Monday.
In response, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq assured that the decision would be expedited and indicated that it might not be announced on Monday but within two or three days.
The Chief Justice also questioned the media reports suggesting objections to Imran Khan’s transfer to Adiala Jail, pointing out that the transfer was approved based on PTI’s own petition. Sher Afzal Marwat clarified that no official statement regarding objections had been made by them.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq expressed surprise over PTI’s objections, considering it was their own petition, and Sher Afzal Marwat responded, stating that they were initially informed that Imran Khan would be accommodated in the B class of Adiala Jail, which did not happen.
It is worth noting that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has submitted challan (charge sheet) under the Official Secrets Act in a special court, finding Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi guilty in the cypher case.
