The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to delay its review mission to Pakistan until after the anticipated general elections in 2024.
This decision follows Pakistan’s commitment to implement new taxes. Talks on the Standby Arrangement (SBA) program will resume with the newly elected government after the elections, with the IMF having already disbursed $1.9 billion out of the total $3 billion under the nine-month SBA.
While the schedule for the second review is yet to be confirmed, successful completion could result in the disbursement of the last tranche of $1.1 billion in April 2024, as the SBA program is set to conclude on April 12, 2024.
