ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have challenged verdict of the “un-Islamic” marriage case in the district and sessions court on Friday. Their legal representatives, Usman Gill, Khalid Yousuf, and Salman Safdar, filed the petition on their behalf.
The petitioners argue that the decision contradicts the facts, and they deem Bushra Bibi’s indictment in the case as “unlawful”. They assert that the civil court did not conduct the trial properly.
Earlier this month, a court sentenced Khan and his wife to seven years each in connection with their marriage, which was deemed “un-Islamic”. The verdict came following a case filed by Bushra Bibi’s former husband.
Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah announced the verdict, along with a fine of Rs500,000 imposed on each of them, in a makeshift court at the Adiala district jail.
