ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, called for immediate released of Karachi-based social activist Alamgir, who was arrested for attempting to dump garbage outside Sindh Assembly building Thursday.
“I demand Sindh govt immediately release the #fixit campaigner Alamgir,” Imran wrote on his verified Twitter account.
“Is making govt aware of its duties & responsibilities a crime?” the PTI chairman asked.
“Instead of rectifying their ways & appreciating Alamgir for community service, Sindh govt is resorting to shameful dictatorial actions,” he said.
His statement comes hours after the Civil Lines police foiled Alamgir’s bid to dump garbage outside the Sindh Assembly building.
Alamgir, who is known as #FixIt campaigner on social media, had gained mainstream media attention after he launched a campaign for civic facilities in Karachi by painting Sindh Chief Minister’s face next to uncovered gutters, asking the government to fix them.
He expanded his campaign by fixing manholes himself. Later, he launched “Kachra Uthao” campaign by driving a tractor in different localities from the city and picking garbage from there.
