ISLAMABAD: A week after the Islamabad High Court denied bail to the arrested former prime minister Imran Khan in the cipher case, PTI Chairman has approached the Supreme Court on Friday seeking bail.
Salman Safdar filed the application, claiming that the cipher case is just another example of the ‘politically motivated cases’ targeting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman.
In the bail application, the Supreme Court is urged to examine whether the Federal Investigation Agency’s motives in the cipher case reveal malintent.
The petition cites the foreign funding case as evidence of FIA’s questionable intent. It’s worth noting that both the trial court and the Islamabad High Court have previously rejected Khan’s bail in this case.
The cipher case revolves around a diplomatic document that the FIA charge sheet alleges was not returned by Imran Khan. The PTI contends that the document contains a threat from the United States to remove Imran as prime minister.
Imran filed several petitions in the IHC, including requests to halt his jail trial, secure bail in the cipher case, challenge his indictment, suspend the Toshakhana verdict, and cancel the first information report in the cipher case. However, the IHC on last Friday had denied to grant him post arrest bail and instructed the trail court to ensure free trail.
