ISLAMABAD: The former Prime Minister and founder of the PTI Imran Khan reportedly chuckled upon hearing the verdict of a 10-year imprisonment in the cipher case handed down by Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqernain.
According to social media reports, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former Foreign Minister, allegedly expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that his statement was not recorded before the judge announced the sentence.
In the cipher case, both Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years in prison. The verdict was delivered after proceedings conducted by Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqernain at the Official Secrets Act special court in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. The judge emphasized that the prosecution presented substantial evidence to establish the guilt of the accused.
During the sentencing, both individuals were present in the courtroom but declined to sign the statement questionnaire under Section 342 of CrPC. They insisted on the presence of their lawyers before signing the questionnaire.
