Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan revealed that PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has directed all party lawmakers in the Punjab Assembly to resign from their standing committees. The decision, according to Gohar, reflects the founder’s dissatisfaction with the political direction in Punjab.
“The PTI holds 14 standing committees in Punjab, and the founder has directed all members to submit their resignations immediately,” Barrister Gohar told reporters outside Adiala Jail after meeting Khan. He dismissed speculation about major internal changes, calling them “baseless and part of a disinformation campaign.”
He further clarified that Imran Khan remains the central authority within the party. “Even if I resign, PTI will cease to exist as a legal entity under the Supreme Court’s ruling,” Gohar said, emphasizing that the chairmanship issue was being exaggerated by political rivals.
Discussing the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gohar confirmed that Imran Khan has nominated provincial minister Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister, replacing Ali Amin Gandapur. “Imran Khan praised Gandapur’s loyalty and leadership but expressed reservations over the province’s counter-terrorism and law and order policies,” he said.
He added, “The founder has instructed a smooth transition of power, and we’ve requested the KP Governor to accept Gandapur’s resignation to ensure stability. There is no forward bloc within PTI.”
When asked about reports suggesting reshuffles in the party’s central leadership, Gohar called them “fabricated and politically motivated.” He said, “Decisions are made by the founder, and every party member stands by them.”
Gohar also provided an update on Imran Khan’s legal battle, confirming that the Toshakhana-II case trial has concluded and that final arguments are scheduled for October 13. “We expect a verdict early next week. Like other cases, this too is politically engineered to keep Imran Khan behind bars,” he said.
According to Barrister Gohar, Imran Khan directed that once the new KP chief minister assumes office, the names of cabinet members will be finalised immediately.
