RAWALPINDI: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, has cast his vote via a postal ballot.
Reports indicate that Imran Khan, along with other political figures, utilized the postal voting system from Adiala Jail.
Among the political leaders who voted by mail were former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid, and former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.
However, Bushra Bibi was unable to participate in the voting process as she was convicted and arrested after the postal voting period had concluded.
In Punjab’s prisons, a total of 1,100 prisoners cast their votes through postal ballots, out of over 65,000 inmates across 43 jails.
A spokesperson for the Prisons Department confirmed that they received 1,500 postal ballots from the Election Commission, while the rest were returned. The voting process in prisons was conducted confidentially and in accordance with proper procedures, with the votes sent to the Election Commission via mail.
It’s worth noting that the Election Commission had issued a directive to the Inspector General of Prisons Punjab to facilitate prisoners in casting their votes.
