Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a second letter to Army Chief General Asim Munir. The Imran Khan letter expresses his concerns about prison conditions, judicial interference, and Pakistan’s economic troubles. The PTI founder claims that his imprisonment has been unjust and politically motivated.
In the letter, Imran Khan states that he wrote with “good intentions for the country’s progress.” He alleges that since his detention, he has faced severe restrictions. He claims he was placed on death row, denied exercise facilities, television, and newspapers. He further complains about being locked up for 40 hours straight and facing extreme difficulties in meeting his legal team and family.
The PTI founder highlights that his sons were allowed to talk to him only three times in the past six months. He also asserts that, despite court orders, his wife was not permitted to visit him. Imran Khan accuses authorities of exerting pressure on the judiciary to influence verdicts against him. He believes that ongoing arrests of PTI members aim to suppress opposition.
The Imran Khan letter links Pakistan’s economic crisis to political uncertainty. He argues that political instability is deepening financial troubles. He calls for dialogue and resolution to bring stability and development to the country.
On February 3, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that the party’s founder had addressed an open letter to the Army Chief. Speaking outside Adiala Jail, Gohar stated that the letter was not a shift in PTI’s stance but a reflection of Imran Khan’s concerns as a former prime minister.
According to Gohar, the letter discusses factors widening the gap between the military and the people. It points to alleged fraudulent elections and the 26th Constitutional Amendment as key issues. Imran Khan urged the Army Chief to reassess current policies to avoid further alienation between the people and the armed forces.
However, on February 4, security officials rejected reports about the Imran Khan letter. They denied receiving any communication from him. They also dismissed media claims about the letter as baseless. Officials clarified that no such letter was received and that the military was uninterested in such tactics.
Security sources criticized PTI, stating that the party was staging another failed drama. They reiterated that the military had no role in political negotiations. If PTI wished to discuss political matters, it should engage with politicians, not the military.
The controversy surrounding the Imran Khan letter adds another layer to Pakistan’s ongoing political crisis. While PTI insists on the authenticity of the letter, security officials completely reject its existence.
