ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police detained Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, at D-Chowk on Friday. They were taken into custody and shifted to the Secretariat Police Station.
The two sisters, who had taken less-traveled routes, were apprehended as soon as they arrived at D-Chowk. Police acted swiftly, detaining them and transporting them in a mobile van.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon visited D-Chowk to assess the security situation. Speaking to journalists, Memon stated, “We have arrested more than 200 workers so far. The protesters will be dealt with comprehensively.”

In a separate development, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted an aerial inspection of various areas to review security arrangements. Naqvi expressed satisfaction with the measures in place, assuring that law and order would not be compromised. “The Islamabad administration and police are fully prepared to handle any situation,” he said, adding that all necessary steps would be taken to maintain peace and protect citizens’ lives and property.
Meanwhile, police detained 30 more PTI protesters from Islamabad and Rawalpindi, amid the closure of mobile phone services in both cities. The federal government has deployed over 4,000 security personnel in Islamabad, sealing off main roads and highways with containers and other obstacles.
Commuters and travelers faced significant inconvenience due to the road closures, struggling to reach their destinations as the situation unfolded.
PTI leader Imran Khan has urged his supporters to gather for a “peaceful protest” in support of judicial independence. Caravans of PTI supporters, including those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were reportedly en route to Islamabad, led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Senator Azam Khan Swati.
