India Cricket Team Faces Possible Coaching Changes After String of Defeats

India Cricket Team Changes Likely After Defeats

NEW DELHI: India’s recent run of defeats has triggered serious concern inside the Board of Control for Cricket in India, with a formal review expected after the ongoing England tour.

Indian media reports say changes could be made to the national team’s coaching and support staff after poor performances against South Africa, Ireland and England. The reports also suggest that at least one senior member of head coach Gautam Gambhir’s support staff may leave the setup.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the board will review India’s recent T20I performances after the England tour. He said the board is concerned about the team’s poor results and wants to identify the reasons behind the slump.

According to Rediff, the review is expected after the ODI series ends on July 19. The report said Gambhir’s contract remains secure until the 2027 ODI World Cup, while the review will focus on team performance and possible course correction.

Reports in Indian media claim that Gambhir’s coaching staff could see a reshuffle. At least one senior support staff member may leave after the England tour, while another member is also reportedly uncertain.

The reports also say possible IPL franchise links may affect future coaching decisions. However, the BCCI has not officially announced any staff changes yet.

Indian media has reported that the atmosphere around the team has become tense after repeated defeats. The reports claim that the dressing room has not been settled for several months.

These claims remain media reports at this stage. The BCCI has not publicly confirmed dressing-room divisions.

India’s poor form has increased pressure on the players, selectors and coaching staff.

The Guardian reported that England beat India by 125 runs in the third T20I, marking India’s heaviest-ever T20 defeat. India were bowled out for 76 while chasing England’s 202.

The defeat added to criticism of India’s selection and match strategy. Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik also questioned the team management’s tactical call to send Harshit Rana ahead of Shivam Dube during the third T20I against England.

The expected BCCI review will likely examine team selection, coaching decisions, recent results and the future direction of India’s T20I setup.

Saikia has said the board will not make a “knee-jerk” decision. However, the review could still lead to changes in India’s support staff or planning structure.

For now, Gambhir remains India’s head coach. But the repeated defeats have clearly put the team’s support system under scrutiny.
