He received strong support from Axar Patel, who took three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy, Hardik Pandya, and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with one wicket each. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner’s decision to field first backfired as India posted an imposing 255/5 in 20 overs.

India’s innings got off to a flying start with Sharma and Samson putting together 98 runs in just seven overs. Rachin Ravindra broke the opening stand by dismissing Sharma for 52 off 21 deliveries, featuring six fours and three sixes. Ishan Kishan then joined Samson, and the pair added 105 runs for the second wicket in just 47 balls before James Neesham dismissed both in the 16th over.
