ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has greenlit two significant infrastructure projects aimed at addressing the ongoing traffic challenges in Islamabad. These initiatives are expected to enhance daily commutes for residents of both Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The foundation stones for the Serena Chowk Interchange and F-10 Exchange Chowk Interchange will be laid next week. The completion timelines for these projects have been significantly expedited; the Serena Chowk Interchange is set to be operational in just three months, incorporating two underpasses and connecting roads. Meanwhile, the F-10 project will take four months to complete and will feature a flyover, an underpass, and additional connecting roads.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been tasked by the Interior Minister to ensure these projects are completed on time, with operations running around the clock if necessary. Naqvi has also approved an alternative traffic management plan to be implemented prior to the start of construction.
During a recent meeting, Naqvi reviewed the layout plans for both interchanges and emphasized the need for the prompt relocation of service lines to prevent delays. He also stressed the importance of effective traffic management throughout the construction period. To facilitate smooth traffic flow, a special unit will be stationed at construction sites.
Additionally, the minister has called for a comprehensive plan to improve traffic conditions at the Faizabad Interchange. Chief Traffic Officer Sarfraz Virk provided a detailed briefing on the strategies for managing traffic during the construction phase.
