ISLAMABAD: Following Omar Ayub’s resignation from his role as the General Secretary of PTI, another leader, Junaid Akbar, who is an MNA from Malakand, has stepped down from the party’s core committee.
In his resignation statement, the PTI Member of the National Assembly (MNA) criticized the party leadership. He emphasized that he is not aligned with any faction within the party and never will be.
Without naming individuals, Akbar accused certain members of prioritizing personal interests and exploiting the party for their gain. He expressed frustration over his lack of decision-making authority and limited access to PTI founder Imran Khan. “These individuals have direct access to Imran Khan, while we are kept at a distance,” he remarked.
Akbar further stated that he is merely informed of the party’s policies and decisions, with no platform to voice his concerns. Dissatisfied with the leadership’s unwillingness to listen, he announced his intention to initiate a movement for accountability alongside party workers.
This resignation follows closely on the heels of Omar Ayub Khan’s departure from his positions within PTI. Ayub, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, submitted his resignation on June 22, which was accepted by Imran Khan.
In his resignation letter, Ayub explained that it was untenable for him to continue as the party’s secretary general while fulfilling his duties as the opposition leader. He also indicated his plan to step down as chairman of PTI’s Central Finance Board but affirmed his commitment to remain an active party worker.
