International Day of UN Peacekeepers

Pakistan marked the International Day of UN Peacekeepers by honoring the brave men and women serving in United Nations missions across the world. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan remains committed to supporting global peace through active participation in UN peacekeeping operations.

In his message on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, the prime minister praised military, police, and civilian personnel working in conflict-hit regions. He said their sacrifices and dedication continue to play an important role in maintaining international peace and security.

Shehbaz Sharif said this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace,” highlights the need for strong political support and financial commitment to ensure lasting peace and protect human lives around the world.

He also recalled the history of UN peacekeeping missions, mentioning that the first operation began in Palestine in 1948 under the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation. Since then, more than two million people have served in over 70 UN peace missions globally.

Speaking about Pakistan’s contribution on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, the prime minister said the country has remained one of the leading contributors to UN operations for decades. Since 1960, Pakistan has deployed more than 235,000 personnel in over 48 peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women peacekeepers.

He noted that Pakistan is currently the fifth-largest contributor to United Nations peacekeeping operations. He added that Pakistani peacekeepers have served with professionalism and courage in different parts of the world.

The prime minister also paid tribute to those who lost their lives while serving under the UN flag. He said more than 4,400 UN peacekeepers have died in the line of duty over the years, including over 181 Pakistanis.

On the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan takes pride in its martyrs and peacekeepers who continue to work for peace, stability, and the protection of vulnerable communities worldwide.
