TEHRAN: President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran has allocated three billion euros to enhance border security, particularly along the Afghanistan border.
An official from the Interior Ministry, Majid Mirahmadi, outlined that the initiative focuses on disrupting routes used for human and weapon smuggling, with special attention given to the Afghanistan border.
Reports from Iranian media detail a comprehensive border blockade program, which includes measures such as wall construction, fencing, and advanced border control systems.
Mirahmadi praised President Raisi’s approval of the border fencing and instructed the armed forces to commence the border sealing process within five years using the allocated funds.
The Deputy Security Minister of Iran’s Interior Ministry highlighted the importance of securing borders to combat human and weapon trafficking, estimating that over $20 billion worth of smuggled goods enter or exit Iran annually. He emphasized that investing in border security is crucial to addressing drug trafficking and other security concerns in Iran.
