Iran has detained two undocumented Afghan nationals accused of working for the Mossad spy network. Authorities say the suspects were gathering intelligence and transmitting it through WhatsApp.
The arrested men allegedly tried to send the location of a high-ranking Iranian official to their intelligence handler based in Germany. Officials claim they had earlier provided the coordinates of Iran’s state broadcaster (IRIB). They also revealed the address of a senior government figure residing in the upscale Saadat Abad area of Tehran.
According to Iranian investigators, each espionage operation earned the suspects $2,000. These payments were made into bank accounts overseas, avoiding any local trace.
The spy ring reportedly used encrypted messaging to avoid detection. Iranian intelligence said both men had been under surveillance for several weeks. Authorities believe the Israeli intelligence network is targeting sensitive state sites and government personnel.
Security forces are now widening their probe. They aim to identify other Mossad agents possibly operating under fake identities or asylum status. Tehran has warned that anyone found aiding the espionage operatives will face severe consequences.
