Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday that pressure and actions from the United States had, in effect, pushed Muslim-majority nations closer together, pointing to the increasing pace of engagement between Iran and Pakistan as a clear example of this shift.
The remarks came during Naqvi’s visit to Tehran, where he held separate meetings with President Pezeshkian and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to discuss the state of bilateral ties and the broader regional picture, according to Iranian media reports.
Pezeshkian Calls for Deeper Cooperation
President Pezeshkian voiced satisfaction over the direction Iran Pakistan relations have taken in recent months and stressed the importance of widening cooperation across trade, energy, tourism, investment, culture, and scientific research.
“We are pleased that you are continuously following up on the process of bilateral cooperation, and we hope that these interactions will continue with greater seriousness in all fields,” he said.
Pezeshkian noted that both nations possess considerable human talent and natural resources, describing Iran and Pakistan as influential regional powers. He suggested that combining these strengths could allow both countries to address many of their needs through domestic and regional means, while also calling for joint investment ventures and stronger inter-sector communication.
Naqvi Says Ties Have Never Been Stronger
For his part, Naqvi said he was pleased to meet the Iranian president and remarked that Iran Pakistan relations had reached a level of closeness never seen before. He affirmed a shared determination to deepen cooperation across trade, the economy, tourism, politics, culture, and science, and briefed Pezeshkian on the current state of joint initiatives across multiple sectors.
Earlier the same day, Naqvi held talks with Iranian Interior Minister Momeni, during which both sides reviewed the progress of ongoing collaboration between their respective interior ministries. Details of the meeting were shared in a post by Pakistan’s Interior Ministry on X.
Momeni Praises Pakistan’s Role in Regional Stability
Momeni expressed gratitude toward Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their contributions to regional peace efforts, describing Naqvi’s visit as highly productive.
“We are grateful for Pakistan’s continuous efforts to establish peace in the region and the recent visit was very beneficial,” he said. Naqvi responded by expressing confidence that bilateral ties would continue to strengthen in the period ahead.
The high-level exchanges took place against the backdrop of stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict that erupted in February. Pakistan has continued to play an active mediating role throughout the crisis, working to ease tensions and support broader regional peace.
